Bio

Dr. Rami El-Farrah is a concert saxophonist known for his solo performances and as a member of the Bel Cuore Quartet and the Austin Saxophone Ensemble. An award-winning soloist and chamber musician, he has performed extensively across the United States and Europe and appears on recent albums from both ensembles. He is the author of the Dynamic Duos for Saxophone series (MusePub) and the etude book 64 Musical Studies (Southern Music). Alongside his performing, he teaches saxophone at The University of Texas at San Antonio, where he directs the university's saxophone ensemble and teaches Jazz History.

Born in Tripoli, Libya, he emigrated first to Southern France and then to the United States — a journey that shaped both his worldview and his work ethic. He found the saxophone in his hometown of San Diego, California, and knew almost at once that it was his calling, going on to earn degrees from California State University, Fullerton and The University of Texas at Austin.

Today Dr. El-Farrah performs with the Austin Saxophone Ensemble, the Bel Cuore Quartet, the San Antonio Philharmonic, the Mid-Texas Symphony, and the Symphony of the Hills, and serves as Associate Professor of Practice in saxophone at UT San Antonio. As an arranger, he continually writes new works for his own ensembles and for groups across the country — many of which have recorded his music, with several pieces appearing on the PML (Prescribed Music List).
